This is so beautiful it made me cry. I spent 10 yrs working at the best bookshop in L.A. 1 yr working at the most pretentious, and 1 yr working at the most corporate. That one was fun because I literally read for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week and they let me take the Science books home all the time. Because they thought they were really weird and wanted me to explain them to the staff. It was a wonderful time. I would love to open my own shop one day. This article gives me the feeling that could happen very soon, indeed.
Hilarious list by Open Salon for anyone who has ever thought about owning their own bookstore (eg. ALL of Bookshelf Porn’s readers).
My favorite:
15. If you open a store in a college town, and maybe even if you don’t, you will find yourself as the main human contact for some strange and very socially awkward men who were science and math majors way back when. Be nice and talk to them, and ignore that their fly is open.
